Apple Crumb Pie

  • 1 Refrigerated roll-out pie crust
  • Filling:
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. of ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. of ground cinnamon
  • 6 cups of tart apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp. of lemon juice
  • Crumb Topping:
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar


Step 1

Take out your pie crust and allow it to warm on the counter while you prepare the rest of the pie. Heat oven to 425 degrees.

Step 2

In a small bowl combine the sugar, flour and spices for the filling. In a large bowl mix the lemon juice with the apples and then pour in the dry ingredients and toss to coat.

Step 3

Prepare the crumb topping by combining the dry ingredients in a bowl and cutting in the butter until crumbly.

Step 4

Put together your pie by unrolling the crust into a 9-inch pie plate. Fold the edges under and flute the pie crust using your thumb. Pour in the apple mixture allowing the apples to stay mounded up in the middle (they will cook down).

Step 5

Using your hands cover the apples with the crumb mixture. Gently pat down the crumbs to keep them in place. Bake the pie in the center of the oven for 40 minutes. Cover the top of the pie with aluminum foil and allow the pie to cook for 10 more minutes or until you can insert a knife into the center of the pie with little resistance. Cool slightly before cutting and serve warm.
