Ingredients

  • 1 lb of ground beef
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 5 minced cloves of garlic
  • 2 (14 oz.) cans of undrained, chopped tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz.) can of tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp of chili powder
  • 1 tsp of ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans of rinsed and drained kidney beans
  • 2 Tbsp of cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup of water

Method

Step 1

Brown the beef in a skillet with the onions and garlic. Cook until the onions are tender. Skim the grease out of the skillet.

Step 2

In a bowl combine the chopped tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, cayenne pepper, and kidney beans.

Step 3

Add the tomato mixture to the skillet with beef. Bring the mixture up to a boil and reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 1 hour.

Step 4

If you are freezing the chili, it is ready to be frozen at this point. When you are ready to eat the chili, thaw it in a sauce pan and heat to a boil. Combine the cornstarch and water in a small bowl and add to the chili. Cook and stir uncovered, about 10 minutes until the chili is thickened.
