- 4 cups of whole milk
- 1/2 a pound of dry, elbow macaroni
- 4 tbsp of butter
- 1/2 a pound of grated cheddar cheese
- pinch of black pepper
- pinch of nutmeg
- 1/4 of a cup of plain breadcrumbs
In a large pot bring the milk to a boil and add the macaroni to boiling milk. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook pasta about 15 minutes until done. Most of the milk will be absorbed by the pasta.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. In a saucepan melt the butter and add the cheese and spices to the pan. When the cheese is melted, pour the sauce into the macaroni and stir. Season with salt and pepper.
Pour the macaroni and cheese into a baking dish. Top with bread crumbs and bake for about 20 minutes until the top is browned.
